Warner Bros. has just released a trailer for their new video game, LEGO DC Super-Villains.
This confirms rumors that have been going around since March, when a trailer for their LEGO The Incredibles game was announced.
An official statement from Tom Stone, TT Games’ Managing Director, describes the game thusly: “With an unprecedented amount of customization options to choose from, players can create and customize their character at the start of the story, unlocking new powers and abilities as they progress through the funniest LEGO game to date.”
The trailer is about one minute long, and begins with panic throughout Superman’s hometown of Metropolis as the Joker leads villains on the attack. The Clown Price of Crime (accompanied by his princess, Harley Quinn) arrive disguised as Commissioner Gordon and a policewoman, but quickly reveal themselves and begin to rampage to the sound of the Blondies song “One Way or Another.”
We also catch brief glimpses of the Reverse-Flash and Poison Ivy before the Joker turns to address a figure in prison, who quickly breaks out; he then proceeds to change appearance in rapid succession, presumably representing the player character and their various possible looks. This will be the first LEGO game where the protagonist is fully custom character.
The plot is that the Justice League has mysteriously vanished, and their roles are taken up by the “Justice Syndicate,” who claim to be superheroes from another universe. The Legion of Doom discovers that the Syndicate are not who they appear to be, however, and try to stop them. (Though not confirmed, good money says that they are the Crime Syndicate, the Justice League’s evil doppelgangers.)
The game, which will be available on Playstation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC, is due for release on October 16.
