General Austin on Impact of Airstrikes on ISIS

The head of the U.S. Central Command, Army General Lloyd Austin discussed the impact that the U.S. airstrikes and other military actions are having on the Islamic State (ISIS) in Syria and Iraq noting that the strikes are effective and demoralizing to ISIS fighters and are effective at rolling back their forces. Austin noted that he knows the impact of these strikes has been demoralizing to ISIS fighters because the military has been listening into communications between ISIS members and have heard the impact it has had on them.

Lloyd mentioned that the precision based attacks have proven effective though ISIS still has the capacity to continue fighting. Further discussion was made on how the airstrikes have bought the coalition members time to train and prepare Iraqi and other troops in the area such as the Kurdish army to resist ISIS which has between nine and seventeen thousand committed fighters.

Austin also discussed the sources of funding and the positive impact that social media and media had on the ability of ISIS to attract fighters to the group, though this capacity has been degraded by the success of air strikes against them by the United States and coalition troops.

Lloyd Austin discounted the potential threat from war planes that ISIS obtained control of and believed that they wouldn’t be much of a threat against the superior air force of the U.S. in the region. The general public has to be happy about that. Christian is just one person paying close attention to what is going on. No on knows the next move just yet.
