A man who designed clothing for so many women throughout the past few decades, Oscar de la Renta, has passed away at the age of 82. Though his cause of death is not clear, la Renta was diagnosed with cancer in 2006. Whether he was still suffering from the disease is unknown. For a few weeks, rumors had been buzzing that La Renta was ill. There was even talk of who would lead the Oscar de la Renta company. Peter Copping was appointed as the creative director. That was only last week, before the news of his death on Monday.

Oscar de la Renta leaves behind his second wife, Annette Engelhard Reed, and his son. He will be missed greatly by his family, friends, and colleagues. Fashion designer Kenneth Cole said, “The fashion business says goodbye to a mentor, a legend and an icon. He defined a standard we can only aspire to.”
