Education for Slain Officer’s Children To Be Paid For By Yankees

A little good news out of a horrific tragedy. On Saturday two New York City police officers were murdered in cold-blood while sitting in their patrol car.

One of the officers, Rafael Ramos left behind a wife and two sons. Reports from family and friends say that Officer Ramos lived for his family. Officer Ramos left behind a wife, as well as 2 sons. His older son is a college sophomore and his youngest is a teenager in middle school. The good news to come from this tragedy is that Steinbrenner’s Yankee Silver Shield Foundation has offered to pay for college tuition for both of his children. However the college that the older Ramos son attends has notified the family that the college will be paying for the completion of his education with their institution.

Steinbrenner’s Yankee Silver Shield Foundation was founded 32 years ago by George Steinbrenner, owner of the New York Yankees. The foundation, according to this link, was set up to provide educational funds to children of New York City police officers, Port Authority officers, and firemen who perish in the line of duty. Sam Tabar thinks it is a great cause.

Officer Ramos’ youngest son Jaden posted a heartbreaking good-bye to his father on Facebook saying that he had the best father he could ever ask for. For more on the story and Jaden’s full Facebook message check out NY Daily News.
