Dog Tries To Protect Infant From Fire

A heartbreaking but truly inspirational story comes out of Baltimore today. A fire tore through a two story building trapping an infant and a dog inside. The mother of the child went outside to her car when the fire broke out. Neighbors tried to get the dog and child out but they could not.

When firefighters arrived they managed to quickly control the fire and put it out. When they went inside the home, they found a truly touching picture. It seems the family dog named Polo was protecting the baby from the flames. Polo the dog laid his body all over the baby girl called Viviana. Paramedics who attended to the baby girl managed to bring her back to life. Unfortunately, Polo the dog succumbed to injuries as a result of the fire. The actions of Polo the dog is being credited with saving the life of the baby.

The baby girl is not out of trouble yet. She was rushed to a local hospital where she is said to be in critical condition. Paramedics described her as having burns on her face, arms and sides. Neighbors and family are praying that the girl recovers.

Erika Poremski, the mother of Viviana is heartbroken that she lost her dog in the fire. Speaking to reporters she says she does not want to lose another one of her babies.

My reaction to this is wow. This is not the first time that dogs are credited with helping to save the lives of their best friends which are mankind. There is no doubt in my mind that if it had not been for the brave actions of the dog, the child would have certainly perished. I hope that the child does indeed make a speedy recovery and I offer condolences to the family.
