C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor is using Pokemon Go to give sick patients a reason to get up and socialize. This children’s hospital is full of “Pokestops” where players can try to catch in-game characters and items alongside family, friends, staff members and fellow patients. A statue of Big Bird is a special stop in the world of the game. The lovable yellow statue marks the spot of a Pokemon gym where patients play together and take pictures.

“It’s a fun way to encourage patients to be mobile. This app is getting patients out of beds and moving around,” said Bouchard, the digital media manager and a certified child life specialist at the hospital.

Some hospitals around the country have had problems with people coming to the hospital specifically for the game, but that has not been a problem at C.S. Mott. They are still encouraging kids and parents to be active, outgoing and enjoy the fun.
